I actually had that microscope Transformer. He was supposed to be the doctor in the team, though why machines would need a physician is anybody’s guess.
As for this obsession people have about making children’s programming “educational:” I agree completely with Bird in that the activists and pundits have a far too narrow definition of what’s educational. I know from personal experience that Bird is about as loyal and conscientious a person as I have ever met. If the good vs. evil opposition in Transformers helped to instill those qualities in him, then I call that effective education.
