This was a comment posted on VentureBeat.com in reference to their article on the game developer genius Sid Meir and his outstanding speech he gave at the Game Developers Conference this year. If anyone bothered to listen to my flamebait in our current poDKast, this is exactly what I’m talking about it when it comes to gamers expecting way too much from developers and how they possess an annoying sense of entitlement when it comes to gaming and technology in general. The guy who posted this comment, “Thad”, said almost word-for-word what I said in my flamebait when I was mocking today’s current generation of gamers. Usually I’m not being completely serious with my flamebait segment, but this time I was and I honestly am sick of gamers like “Thad” who feel the need to whine and bitch about modern gaming. What I, and most other sensible gamers, view as innovation and artistry in modern games “Thad” views as “retarded” and unworthy of his gaming expertise. I feel sorry for “Thad” and his inability to enjoy advancements in technology and gaming, perhaps he’s the one that’s “retarded.”

I was thinking about responding to “Thad”s little diatribe but I noticed a few other people beat me to it, most notable was a man named “Freddy”:

“You’re 28 and playing games your whole life? Dude, your whole life hasn’t even started. I am 54 and have been playing games my whole life. When I started playing games it wasn’t even cool to do so. The games today are better than they were. Sorry they are set to easy by default, that was something added for your generation. As for how smart you are, there is a shift key on your keyboard for a reason.

I once had a man tell me that stupid people are stupid for a reason. The reason is so they won’t know how stupid they are. Calling people retarded while not being able to write with proper grammar or punctuation speaks loads about you.”

“Freddy”, you’re my new hero. Preach on, brother.
