With the release of House of the Dead: Overkill, Wii gamers will experience blood, gore, a zombie mutant with jiggling boobs and 189 uses of the word “fuck,” setting a new Guinness world record for most “fucks” in a video game.
Overkill is one of the more recent Mature-rated titles for the Wii, an ESRB rating that seems to be popping up on more Wii games as of late; MadWorld, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop and the titillating Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers are some of the latest releases on the Wii to receive an M rating, bringing the total amount of M-rated games on the Wii to 26.
This Guinness record is truly a crowning achievement in video game history, especially for Nintendo. Nintendo has always been a champion for “family gaming” and has always pandered to grade-schoolers, uptight parents and casual gamers that would rather play fluffy puzzle games than shoot a zombie in the head. However, with more adult-oriented games coming to the Wii, Nintendo is making great strides to tap the true gaming market – 18- to 34-year-olds.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Nintendo. Most of their franchise titles can satisfy any gamer’s pallet. But, there comes a time in a gamer’s life when jumping on turtles and saving princesses just isn’t enough. Nintendo, finally, is starting to offer games for the adult gaming community; games with meat on their bones. 26 M-rated titles definitely isn’t enough, but it’s a good start. Hell, more Teen-rated games would help.
The next step for Nintendo is to trounce Hollywood, the reigning king of “bad” language. It will be no easy task since the film with the most instances of the word “fuck” dropped it a whopping 824 times (9fpm). The name of this F-bomb riddled movie? That’s right, Fuck, a 2005 documentary chronicling the history of everyone’s favorite curse word. The runner-up is a Gary Oldman film titled Nil by Mouth, but it wasn’t even close to being first only clocking in at 428 uses (3fpm). To illustrate, here’s a nifty graph:

Clearly Nintendo needs to step up their game.
Nintendo should be proud of themselves; this definitely makes up for the Virtual Boy. Sadly, though, it doesn’t appear that any more M-rated titles will be coming out for the Wii until at least this Fall. No matter; the newest crop of M-rated games will certainly entertain me for a couple of months. For once, I’m actually glad I bought a Nintendo Fucking Wii.

The Only Thing That Got Me To Read This Column Is.
