“This week, the kids discuss a local tragedy that, unfortunately, re-affirms their purpose. They also discover a few roots and find out that the magical box isn’t good enough to cover up the head-colds they suddenly develop around the 18 minute mark.”

Here’s my personal favorite piece of good-press for the gaming community: http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ In the 2008 holiday season, gamers donated over $1.4 million to buy toys for children’s hospitals. When we work together, we can do some pretty awesome stuff.
There’s another story of gamers and real-life tunnels. Back in the early ’80s (I think…) there was a group of gamers that got lost underground in Seattle, LARPing D&D in some tunnels under the city. One of those gamers was a friend of mine’s dad. They got out just fine, but it added some more bad press to D&D in the northwest.
Here’s a rather humorous letter sent by Jack I’ve-Been-Disbarred Thompson to Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer:
“Dear Chief Sizer:
I have information that would be useful to establish further the apparent causal link between the violent video game play of alleged killer Ayala and the recent incident at the teen club.
Some detective in the Bureau with whom I spoke has been compromised by the video game industry, and he was anticipating my call.
I think your Bureau and you put public safety ahead of the pro-video game bias and gaming activities of this detective.
Please have some responsible detective contact me on this, as these incidents tied to games are popping up all over the place. Thanks.”
I’m not sure what Chief Sizer’s response was, if she even had one, but in a perfect world it would look something like this:
Dear Mr. Thompson,
What? We can’t post in html? Lame…
Just so you know, the time stamps on the comments are an hour ahead. Oh, and the image I posted was epic. Maybe you can fix that, too? DO IT!
